In the Garden: March
March has brought a gentle shift in the garden—new growth beginning to take shape alongside what continues to flourish.
Early spring plantings are starting to grow, with climbing peas, soft herbs, strawberries, kale, and flowers like scarlet flax beginning to fill the garden.
At the same time, the garden is still providing. Cool-season harvests continue to fill the kitchen—cauliflower, purple sprouting broccoli, white swiss chard, and carrots—alongside citrus from the trees and fresh eggs from our chicken coop.
It’s been a quiet yet busy month of gardening, with plans underway for what comes next.
This month, our chickens are laying close to ten eggs a day, and with Easter approaching this week, we may have a very special surprise hatching in the coop—a baby chick is expected to arrive.
In these early weeks of spring, the garden has been full of small beginnings that will shape the season ahead.
